About Saariselkä Northern Lights
A guide for your night under the aurora
Saariselkä Northern Lights is an independent guide for everyone who wants to stand under the aurora in the far north of Finland. Here you will find how the aurora tours from Saariselkä compare, where in Finland the lights show and how often, which months and hours work best, how to read tonight's forecast, what the glass igloos and aurora cabins nearby offer, how a snowmobile or reindeer evening works, how to photograph the sky yourself, what Lake Inari and Ivalo add, how Saariselkä compares with Rovaniemi and Levi, and how many nights to plan.
The site is available in English and five additional languages. It is written first in English.
How we research
Every number on our pages comes from a source that we link to at the bottom of the page: mostly the Finnish Meteorological Institute, the NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center, Visit Finland and Metsähallitus, with climate normals from NOAA for the Saariselkä weather station. Information on tours, that is duration, languages, inclusions, and starting prices, is taken from the offers on GetYourGuide.
Clear skies and an active aurora cannot be ordered, and a tour may drive far from the village to find a gap in the clouds. Listings also differ in what they include, transfers above all. That is why we tell you plainly what a listing states and what it leaves open.
How we make money
Saariselkä Northern Lights is funded through the GetYourGuide affiliate program. When you book through one of our links, we receive a commission; your price remains the same. There are no advertising banners here, and we do not sell your data.
Who is behind it
Saariselkä Northern Lights is run by Lukas Weber from Munich. You will find all details about the provider in the legal notice. The easiest way to send questions, comments, or corrections is to email [email protected].
